Habibganj railway station in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is the first private international railway station in India. This station is based on PPP (Public Private Partnership) model. The redevelopment of this station will cost around Rs 100 crore and the commercial development around the station will cost around Rs 350 crore. Ministry of Railways is working on the redevelopment of railway stations in phases.
The station, which is being redeveloped by IRSDC, will be a world class transit hub with a dedicated range. According to SK Lohia, MD and CEO of IRSDC, all the civil works of this project have been completed. He said, "I believe the redevelopment of Habibganj railway station will be completed by the end of December 2019 and it will be fully ready". The station is being redeveloped on the lines of Heidelberg railway station in Germany.
